The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has provided assistance to the mother of a 9-year-old girl killed in a brutal attack at their home in Hacienda Badiang, Brgy. E. Lopez, Silay City, which also left her two other siblings injured.
The mother is an active member of OWWA who had worked in Saudi Arabia for eight months.
OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan visited the mother at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City, where her two children are confined, and attended the wake of the 9-year-old girl in Silay on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Caunan said the employer of the mother provided her air ticket from Dammam, Saudi Arabia, to Manila, and upon her arrival in the country, the OWWA assisted her in returning to Negros.
As an active member of OWWA, the mother was provided with repatriation and financial assistance and immediate welfare support, Caunan said.
Caunan also visited the hospital to coordinate with the medical team and ensure continued support.
The financial/livelihood assistance provided to the mother under the OWWA reintegration program will help her and her family recover and start over here in the Philippines, Caunan said.
WITNESSES NEEDED
Meanwhile, Silay Mayor Joedith Gallego on Tuesday called on witnesses who have information that could lead to the arrest of the culprit behind the attack on the children that took place on Saturday, February 7.
More witnesses are needed for the arrest of those responsible, he said.
A P100,000 reward is being offered for information that could lead to their arrests.
Someone from abroad has donated P60,000 to help the mother of the children, Gallego also said.
PERSONS OF INTEREST
The police have more than one person of interest in the brutal attack, Capt. Judesses Catalogo, Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office spokesperson, said.
He said the crime could have been committed by more than one person.
Witnesses have provided circumstantial evidence, and they are gathering more evidence to corroborate their statements, he said.
He said the 4-year-old boy is now responsive, and they are waiting for the doctor’s approval for them to talk to the child.
The child could provide information on the identities of the attackers, he said.
The 15-year-old girl’s operation was successful, and hopefully her recovery will continue, Catalogo added.*
