The Nationalist People’s Coalition has nominated Psyche Marie “Pao” Sy to fill the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod seat left vacant with the death of her father, Councilor Elmer Sy.
NPC chairman, Senate President Vicente Sotto III, in a letter to President Rodrigo Duterte received by his office on December 6, said in accordance with Section 45 of Republic Act 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code, he is nominating Psyche Marie Sy to fill the seat of her father.
Her father who was an NPC member was hit with COVID-19 and passed away on June 25, 2021.
His daughter is running for Bacolod councilor under the ticket of Bacolod mayoral aspirant Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez.
She had cried foul over the endorsement by some Grupo Progreso (GP) officials of Marlon Solidum to assume the vacated seat of her father.
The endorsement made by some GP officials for Solidum, their councilor candidate, to be the NPC replacement of her father in the SP “was made clearly to circumvent our election laws and other existing laws because the signatories had, after signing, signified their candidacy and took their oath under the Nacionalista Party”, she said.
She raised her complaint before Sotto when he visited Bacolod City in November.*
