NFSW calls for release of woman arrested with 4 others in Talisay, urges CHR probe

The National Federation of Sugar Workers is calling for the release of their colleague who was among the five alleged New People’s Army members who were arrested in Talisay City on April 22.

Julie Ann Balora is a member of the NFSW and a labor organizer, not an NPA, Mario Tapion of the NFSW said on Thursday, April 30

He questioned why Jerome Seballos, a businessman and one of the five arrested, was released while Balora is still detained.

Noli Rosales, Kilusang Mayo Uno secretary general, also called for the release of Balora and for the Commission on Human Rights to investigate her continued detention.

Balora and Seballos have no warrants of arrest so they should be given the same treatment, he said.

It’s a big question mark why authorities knew that three other persons with warrants of arrest were in the car of Seballos, it was pointed out.

They said it is for Seballos to defend himself from insinuations on social media alleging that he was working for the government.*
