Negros officials mourn death of former BM

Negros Occidental board member and EB Magalona Mayor David Lacson was “a good public servant and was loved by many. His brand of generosity will be missed”, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said Sunday, December 5.

The 46-year-old former board member succumbed to COVID-19 at the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City, Friday, December 3.

His sudden death “came as a shock to everyone last Friday night,” the governor said.

“Just when the numbers of COVID cases are decreasing, we hear this sad news. This again, is a reminder to everyone to remain vigilant in protecting ourselves against COVID-19,” he said.

The governor expressed his sympathies to the family of the former board member.

United Negros Alliance (UNegA) colleagues of the former board member Saturday, December 4, also expressed their grief over his death Friday.

The UNegA members during their general assembly in Bago City passed a resolution expressing their condolences to the family of Lacson.

“He served as a UNegA member in good standing”, Cadiz Mayor Salvador Escalante, its secretary general, said.

Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, UNegA president, said it was painful to learn of the death of Lacson.

Lacson was a good public servant and a dear friend, Ferrer said.

Ferrer said he spoke to Lacson on Tuesday, November 30, and urged him to go to the hospital, although there were no signs that he would die.

He was admitted at the Riverside Medical Center on Wednesday, December 1, and died on December 3.

Board Member Andrew Montelibano, a cousin of Lacson, said “David was a kind and generous person, and a dedicated public official.”

“Due to pandemic safety precautions, attendance to daily mass and novena at the local church will be restricted to immediate family members only. We encourage other family and friends to participate and celebrate the life of David R. Lacson via Zoom,” a Facebook post on the former board member’s wall said Sunday.

The Zoom novena masses are every 4 p.m., Montelibano said.

Lacson is survived by his mother Paz, wife Risa, children Moki, Driana and Jaime, and siblings John and Natalie.*
