Negros Occidental girls softball teams emerge as nat’l champions

The Negros Occidental Softball Team that emerged champion in the 2022 Little League Philippines Series National Finals presented their trophies and medals to Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson at the Capitol in Bacolod City Wednesday afternoon. May 25.

Present during their visit was Provincial Sports Coordinator Anthony Agustin.

The team bagged the championship in the Major League Softball Championship and Senior League Softball Championship, and first runner up in the Junior League Softball Championship.

The games were held at Manuel Y. Torres Sports Center and hosted by the Bago City government from May 16 – 22.

Three divisions of the softball game were entered to play – Majors, Juniors and Seniors, a press release from the Provincial Sports Office said.

The winners were:

Majors – Champion, Negros Occidental; 1st runner-up, Bago City; and 2nd runner-up, Tanauan City, Batangas.

Juniors division – Champion – Bago City team; 1st Runner up – Negros Occidental; and 2nd runner-up, Maragusan team of Davao de Oro.

Seniors Division – Championship – Negros Occidental; 1st runner-up, Tanauan; and Bago City. 2nd runner-up.

The participating teams were from Negros Occidental, Bago City, Dumaguete City, Tanauan City, Pasig City, Kalinga, Bulacan, Sarangani, Davao City and Maragusan, Davao de Oro.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson expressed his gratitude to the visiting softball teams for making the province a sports tourism destination.

Agustin also thanked the provincial teams for showing tough and challenging sportsmanship in all their games.

All the champion teams will represent the country in the 2022 Asia Pacific Regional Softball Tournament to be hosted by the Philippines, the press release said.*
