Negros Island typhoon deaths 114; Occidental sets P50M to aid victims

The death toll from Typhoon Odette in Negros Island has hit 114.

Negros Oriental reported 74 deaths and Negros Occidental has 40.

There were also 100 injured in Negros Occidental and 11 are still missing Zeaphard Caelian, Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD) head, said Wednesday, December 22.

Of the 40 deaths in Negros Occidental, Sipalay City had 17, Kabankalan City – 11, Moises Padilla – 3, Candoni – 2, and Binalbagan, Cauayan, Ilog, Isabela, La Carlota City, Manapla and San Carlos City – 1 each, he said.

However, Mayor Pedro Zayco on Tuesday reported 14 typhoon-related deaths in Kabankalan City.

Of the 11 missing, Caelian said Sipalay had 7, Kabankalan – 3 and Candoni – 1.

The typhoon also destroyed 42,432 houses and damaged 158,832 in Negros Occidental, he added.

The Negros Occidental Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved the allocation of P50 million for the purchase of buildings materials, such as GI sheets, to aid those whose houses were destroyed and damaged, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.*
