Negros dengue deaths 10

Dengue deaths in Negros Occidental increased to 10 from January to the second week of September, records from the Provincial Health Office on Thursday, Sept. 19, showed.

From January 1 to Sept. 14, the PHO recorded 10 deaths and 3,851 cases that are 244.76 percent higher compared to the same period last year with only 1,117 cases.

Dr. Girlie Pinongan, Provincial Health Officer, said the dengue cases were starting to drop and increased again with the heavy rains.

Bago City has the highest number of dengue cases with 369 cases, followed by Hinoba-an with 325, San Carlos City with 262, and Sipalay City and Talisay City with 250 cases each.

Pinongan said that they are also monitoring the evacuation sites in the province to prevent possible dengue cases.

She also advised those who have possible dengue symptoms to seek early consultation.

Some of the causes of the deaths from dengue were due to late consultations, Pinongan added.*
