NegOcc crime incidents drop by 12.81% in 11 months: PNP

The crime incidents in Negros Occidental dropped by 12.81 percent from January 1 to November 25 this year, the  Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) reported on Sunday,  Dec. 1. 

The crime incidents dropped by 518 from 4,043 in 2023   to 3,525 in 2024, the NOCPPO report said. 

The  report said crimes listed under the Peace and Order Indicator (POI) and Public Safety Indicator (PSI) decreased.  

The Peace and Order Indicator (POI) decreased by 7.34 percent  from 2,944 down to 2,728, which reflects a downtrend in crimes under this category for the past 11 months, the  NOCPPO said.  

Under POI are the 8-Focus crimes that contributed a 37.65 percent decrease or 250 cases lower from 664 last year to only 414 this year.  

The NOCPPO said the incidents under the 8-Focus Crimes that decreased from Jan. 1 to Nov. 25 this year, compared to 2023, are:

– Murder dropped by 12 incidents or 8.16 percent from 147 to 135;  

– Homicide decreased by 11 incidents or 22.45 percent from 49 to 38;  

– Physical Injuries decreased by 17 incidents or 35.42 percent from 48 to 31;  

– Rape cases dropped  by 112 or  51.61 percent  from 217 to only 105 incidents; 

– Robbery cases decreased by 13 or 25.49 percent from 51  to 38;  

– Theft cases recorded the second highest percentage of decrease in number by 74  or   55.62 percent  from 134 to only 60 incidents; 

-Theft of motorcycles recorded the highest percentage of decrease by 11 incidents or  64.71 percent  from 17 to only 6 incidents; and 

– Carnapping of motor vehicles had  no increase or decrease with one incident recorded for the same periods.  
 

PCol. Rainerio de Chavez, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Director, attributed the decrease in the POI to the religious conduct of the Enhanced Managing Police Operations, Police Integrated Patrol System, intensified Police Visibility, checkpoint operations, law enforcement operations and the implementation of local ordinances. 

Meanwhile, the Public Safety Indicator (PSI) decreased by 302 cases or 27.48 percent from 1,099 down to 797.  

NOCPPO recorded a decrease in the number of vehicular accidents under the PSI from 1,093 to 794 or a 27.36 percent decrease equivalent to 299 incidents.*
