Neg. Occ., eight LGUs Gawad Kalasag awardeess

The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council awarded the Negros Occidental provincial government, six cities and two towns the Gawad Kalasag Seal of Excellence Awards for 2023 at rites at the Negros Residences in Bacolod City on Friday, March 22.

Among the awardees were the cities of Victorias, La Carlota, San Carlos, Silay, Talisay and Bacolod, and the towns of E.B. Magalona and Manapla.

These local government units adhered to the standards for the establishment and functionality of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council offices prescribed under the Philippine DRRMC Act of 2010.

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, in his speech, said the awards are an affirmation that the LGUs are on the right track and at the same time they are a continuous call to action for the betterment of the LGUs’ disaster response and resilience.

“By remaining committed to staying informed and adhering to science-based systems, technological tools, and opportunities, we can effectively address disaster risk reduction, including the protection and safety of our responders,” he said.

The event also served as an orientation for the 2024 Gawad Kalasag in the province.*
