A minor died and eight others were injured in two accidents in southern Negros Occidental on Thursday and Friday, February 8 and 9.
Five passengers were injured when a Ceres Bus fell on its side at Sitio Bandihan, Barangay Salong, Kabankalan City, Friday morning, February 9.
The bus was travelling from Kabankalan City proper going to Brgy Bantayan when it stopped at an uphill curve to drop off a passenger, the police reported.
Suddenly the bus went in reverse and the driver stepped on the brakes but it malfunctioned and the bus fell on its side, the police added.
The injured passengers were brought to the Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City for treatment.
There were 35 passengers on board the bus that has capacity for 39, Jade Marquez, Vallacar Transit Inc. media relations officer, said.
She said the five suffered minor injuries and were expected to be discharged Friday.
IN CANDONI
Meanwhile, a minor died and three were injured in a drag race accident in Candoni, Negros Occidental, on Thursday, a Candoni Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office member said.
The minor was watching the drag race when he was hit by a motorcycle that overshot the race tracks.
The driver, a 28-year-old woman and a barangay tanod were reported injured.*
