A 15-year-old boy was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Escalante City, Negros Occidental, on Monday, July 27, while his mother now faces multiple charges after she allegedly assaulted a police officer in an attempt to obstruct the arrest.
The primary drug suspect, identified only by the alias “Jam,” 39, remains at large.
Lt. Col. Florendo Fajardo, Escalante police chief, said the operation was conducted by the Station Drug Enforcement Team at around 6:19 p.m. in Brgy. Balintawak.
Police alleged that the minor conspired with “Jam” and handed a sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover officer in exchange for marked money.
During the operation, the boy’s mother, identified only by the alias “Wela,” 49, allegedly tried to prevent the arrest and assaulted one of the police officers.
Fajardo said the officer sustained injuries after the suspect allegedly bit him during the confrontation.
The woman was arrested and will face charges for obstruction of justice, oral defamation, and slight physical injuries, police said.
Recovered during the operation were four sachets of suspected shabu weighing about 0.68 gram with a standard drug price of P4,624, along with P500 in buy-bust money consisting of one genuine P100 bill and four boodle P100 bills.
Police said the minor was informed of his rights in the presence of representatives from the Women and Children Protection Desk and the City Social Welfare and Development Office before being turned over to the CSWDO for proper disposition.
The seized drug evidence was submitted to the Negros Occidental Provincial Forensic Unit for laboratory examination, while authorities continue the manhunt for the remaining suspect.*
