Gasataya strengthens public school security with donation of 200 metal detectors

Mayor Greg Gasataya turned over 200 handheld metal scanners to the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office of Bacolod City, led by Schools Division Superintendent Dennis Develos, on Tuesday, July 28.

Gasataya said the devices were donated by private individuals and organizations while the city prepares to procure additional security equipment, including handheld and walk-through metal detectors, to further strengthen safety measures in public schools.

“We are fortunate and grateful that private groups and individuals donated these handheld metal detectors, which we immediately turned over to DepEd for distribution to our public schools,” Gasataya said.

The mayor emphasized that the donation forms part of the city government’s continuing efforts to provide a safer learning environment for students, teachers, and school personnel, a press release from the Bacolod City Communications Office (BCCO) said.

Develos thanked Gasataya and the donors for their support, noting that the handheld metal detectors will help reinforce security in schools.

“These equipment will serve as a deterrent as we ensure that all students are safe once inside the school campus. With the equipment, the inspection process at school entrances will be faster and more efficient,” Develos said.

He added that the 200 handheld metal detectors will be distributed to 75 public schools across Bacolod City, prioritizing schools that have yet to receive similar security equipment. He also welcomed the city’s plan to provide additional security devices in the coming months.

Joining the turnover ceremony were Bacolod City Police  Director Col. Eugene Rebadomia, Rizal Elementary School Principal Pedro Crispe Jr., and Luis Hervias National High School Principal Herbert Tecson.*
