Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said it is not likely that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. would sign the Negros Island Region (NIR) law during his visit to Bacolod in December.
The Senate has not approved its counterpart measure creating the NIR composed of Negros Occidental and Oriental, and Siquijor yet, the mayor noted.
But he was told that the Senate is okay with its approval, Benitez added.
The president is expected to lead the awarding of the housing units to 288 buyer-beneficiaries under the Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program during his visit to Bacolod on Dec. 20.
Benitez also said he was informed that the creation of a second congressional district in Bacolod has been placed on hold by Congress along with all other bills seeking the creation of new districts.*
