Man shot dead in broad daylight attack in Manapla

A 40-year-old man was killed in a shooting incident at Hacienda Unson in Brgy. Santa Teresa, Manapla, Negros Occidental on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 18.

The police said the victim was a married man and a resident of Zone 5 in Brgy. Purisima, Manapla.

The Manapla police said the suspect was identified as alias “George,” 22, single, and a resident of Hacienda Unson, who remains at large.

Investigation showed that the suspect arrived at the area riding a Kawasaki motorcycle, alighted, and approached the victim before shooting him without any provocation.

Police said the victim attempted to flee but was chased by the suspect, who shot him again, hitting him at the back of the head and causing his death.

Responding personnel recovered one live ammunition of a .45 caliber firearm at the crime scene.

The father of the suspect told the police his son held a long-standing grudge against the victim. He claimed the victim was tagged in the killing of the suspect’s uncle.*
