LTO orders tricycle driver to explain in traffic enforcer assault case

The Land Transportation Office-Negros Island Region has served a show cause order on a tricycle driver allegedly involved in the assault of a traffic enforcer in Himamaylan City.

The order was served by the LTO-NIR Intelligence and Investigation Unit, with assistance from LTO Himamaylan personnel, at the Brgy. 3 People’s Hall at around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20.

The respondent was identified by the LTO as the tricycle driver seen in a viral video allegedly punching a local traffic enforcer during a confrontation on Wednesday, Aug. 19.

The confrontation reportedly stemmed from the driver being reprimanded for roadside parking.

The traffic enforcer sustained an injury to the mouth following the alleged assault.

LTO-NIR earlier said the driver had been placed under police custody, while the traffic enforcer was preparing to file a complaint.

The show cause order requires the driver to explain why administrative sanctions should not be imposed against him in connection with the incident.

The issuance of the order forms part of the LTO’s administrative process and does not by itself determine the driver’s liability for the alleged assault.

LTO-NIR said motorists and transport operators are expected to comply with traffic regulations and respect traffic enforcers performing their duties.*
