UPDATE: Vice President Leni Robredo’s visit to typhoon-hit areas in Negros Occidental on Monday, December 20, has been moved to Tuesday, December 21. Details are still to be firmed up, former governor Rafael Coscolluela, Negros for Leni convenor, said.

Vice President Leni Robredo, who has been barnstorming typhoon Odette-hit areas, will be in Himamaylan and Kabankalan cities Monday, December 20, to meet with local government officials and evacuees.

She will also be turning over 2,000 food packs and 2,000 5kg packs of rice to be followed by 1, 000 more sacks of rice for relief operations in seven affected towns and cities in southern Negros Occidental, former governor Rafael Coscolluela, Leni for Negros group convenor, said.

The rice is from the Office of the Vice President funds, while food packs and Mingo meals are from private donations, he said.

More donations coming in will allow Robredo to reach more areas in need of assistance, he added.

Robredo is looking at the situation on the ground to see the extent of the calamity and identify the most appropriate courses of action, Coscolluela said.

“She wants to hear first hand from the communities and LGUs affected. She is following a punishing schedule that will allow her to see and assist most of the typhoon-affected areas,” he added.

Robredo will fly to the two Negros cities via helicopter from Cebu, he said.*
