Vice President Leni Robredo called on her supporters to continue to work hard to win more votes with just four days left to campaign before the May 9 polls because the power for change is in the hands of the people.

“Let’s have a good fight, let’s finish the race and continue to keep the faith,” she said.

Robredo issued the call at a rally at the Bantayan Park in Bago City, and at a gathering of about 1,500 volunteers at the Convention Hall of Acacia Hotel in Bacolod City where she was met by rousing welcomes from supporters who chanted her name Tuesday night, May 3.

At the gathering of volunteers from various sectoral groups in Negros Occidental, they jointly proclaimed Robredo, her runningmate Francis Pangilinan, who was represented by his brother, John Pangilinan, and their senatorial bets as their candidates of choice.

They are giving their full support and total commitment to Robredo, the leader they can trust without reservations, said former governor Rafael Coscolluela, Robredo People’s Council Negros Occidental head, who read the proclamation statement.

They are Filipinos who dream for a better life for all and want a government they can trust and that truly serves the people. They want servant leaders with integrity, competence and compassion for better lives for all, he said.

“We will win this,” he ended, which prompted the audience to chant “Leni, Leni, Leni”.

Robredo was joined by senatorial candidates Chel Diokno, Alex Lacson, Risa Hontiveros, Sonny Matula and Neri Colmenares in Negros.

Negros Occidental was the fourth province she visited Tuesday, having also gone to Aklan, Antique, and Iloilo.

Robredo thanked the Negros Occidental and Bacolod City supporters for all their help and hardwork in campaigning for her, Pangilinan and the rest of the team.

She said because of the energy they are getting from passionate supporters coming from all walks of life, what would have been a long and grueling campaign, has been the happiest and most fun of all the campaigns she has gone through.

“People are just so hungry for change and want to fight for this country,” she said.

“This is a very uphill battle but if we win this imagine the kind of message that we will send,” she said.

“For change to happen we must realize that power is really in the hands of the people,” she added.

Robredo said what she can promise the people is an honest government.

Also present at the supporters’ gathering were Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante, Sagay City Mayor Alfredo Marañon III, Rep. Leo Rafael Cueva (Negros Occidental, 2nd District) and former Negros Occidental governor Isidro Zayco.

Romana de los Ryes, Robredo People’s Council Bago head, estimated the crowd at the Bantayan Park Rally at 15,000.

Robredo said she was in Bago City to fulfill a promise to return. She apologized that during her visit to Negros Occidental on April 11 her caravan did not pass through Bago.*
