
The 195 residents of Bago and La Carlota cities in Negros Occidental who evacuated following a two-minute moderately explosive eruption at Kanlaon Volcano have decamped and returned to their homes.
Kanlaon has remained relatively calm following Thursday’s eruption, Mari Andylene Quintia, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) volcanologist, said on Sunday, Feb . 22.
The volcano had nine volcanic earthquakes and emitted 910 tons of sulfur dioxide from 12 a.m. Saturday to 12 a.m. Sunday, Phivolcs reported.
Irene Bel Ploteña, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), said the 26 families (80 individuals) from Barangay Ilijan in Bago City and 34 families (115 individuals) from Barangays Araal and Guintubdan in La Carlota City, who evacuated following the eruption on Thursday had returned home on Saturday.
The La Carlota City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office decamped the 34 families from the La Carlota South Elementary School – I Evacuation Center following improved conditions at Kanlaon Volcano, the city government announced.

The Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) workers distributed 459 jerry cans to affected communities and displaced persons in La Carlota City following the eruption.
The two-day relief operation provided essential, secure water storage solutions to those directly impacted by volcanic ash and displacement, the city government reported.
Personnel from the Bureau of Fire La Carlota, supported by BFP Talisay, were also deployed to clean the main road of Brgy. San Miguel, La Carlota, which was covered in ash from the eruption.*
