The Negros Island Region (NIR) recorded the highest average number of lost instructional days in the country due to hazards and calamities from 2024 to 2026, data released by the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM II) on Friday, Sept. 11, shows.
Data submitted by the Department of Education Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DepEd DRRMS) as of May 5, 2026, shows NIR topping the list with a two-year average of 26 lost class days per school division.
Nationwide, school divisions lost an average of 15 instructional days—equivalent to nearly a full month of classes—over the same period.
Following NIR with the highest average class disruptions are:
- Region VII (Central Visayas) – 22.2 days
- Region I (Ilocos Region) – 22.1 days
- Region V (Bicol Region) – 21.8 days
- Region IV-A (CALABARZON) – 20.1 days
- Region VI (Western Visayas) – 19.5 days
- Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) – 19.4 days
In contrast, Region IX recorded the lowest average of lost class days at 2.4, followed by CARAGA (4.8), BARMM (5.2), Region XI (5.9), and Region X (6.5). The National Capital Region (NCR) averaged 14.9 lost days.
EDCOM II noted that the figures specifically account for class disruptions caused by natural hazards and disasters, excluding lost days due to local holidays, celebrations, off-class activities, and non-teaching tasks.*
