Face to face classes of 337,053 learners in 779 schools were cancelled following the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano, Hernani Escullar, and Department of Education Western Visayas spokesperson, said Tuesday, Dec. 10
Classes were cancelled to protect the learners from the volcano’s ash fall.
They shifted to the alternative delivery mode of learning such as modular or online for the learners in schools under the divisions of Antique, Bago, Guimaras, Himamaylan, Iloilo Province, La Carlota, Negros Occidental and San Carlos, Escullar said.
The DepEd will wait for instructions from the local government units while continuing to monitor the situation in Kanlaon, he said.
Classes were also suspended in Canlaon City in Negros Oriental, he said.
The UP Miag-ao campus also shifted to remote learning modalities because of ash fall from Kanlaon.*
