The three-day Bacolod Chicken Inasal Festival kicked of Friday, May 26, with Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez promising to work at making it equally as famous as the city’s MassKara Festival.

Benitez, who declared the festival open at rites held at the North Capitol Road, said one way to make people smile is when there are festivals worth attending.

The festival opening was joined by Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and the mayors of Negros Occidental.

Lacson said he was happy that the city government allowed the provincial government to collaborate in the festival.

Councilor Celia Flor said the festival was being held to promote Bacolod’s Chicken Inasal that is the best in the country.

She reiterated that the highlight of the festival will be a 320-meter grilling station at Megaworld’s The Upper East 6 p.m. Sunday that will enable the cooking of 3,000 chicken inasals at a time.

On Saturday the Barangay Inasal Cook-Off will be held at the Manokan Country and SM City Bacolod at 4 p.m. followed at 5 p.m. by the Chicken Inasal Awards at the SM Atrium and a live cooking demonstration by celebrity chef Jose Sarasola at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central.

There will also be a food fest and nightly entertainment at the three festival sites – North Capitol Road, The Upper East and the Manokan Country.*
