The House of Representatives has passed a resolution congratulating and commending 5-year-old Aleia Aielle Aguilar, who has roots in Negros Occidental, for being the youngest world youth jiu-jitsu champion, her father Negrense Arthur Alvin Aguilar said Wednesday, November 16.

His daughter won the championship in the Kids’ 1 under-16 kg event of the 2022 Abu Dhabi World Youth Jiu-Jitsu Competition in the United Arab Emirates on November 13 to 14.

House Resolution 546 introduced by Rep. Jose J. Teves Jr. (TGP Partylist) said the 5-year-old defeated several competitors from around the world, including UAE’s Maria El Halabi, in the semifinal match and Gabriela Vercosa of Brazil in the final round.

“Despite her very young age, Aguilar displayed a remarkable performance in Jiu-jitsu by becoming the first Filipino youth champion, and an exemplar of Talino at Galing ng Pinoy,” the resolution added.

The House of Representatives led by Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez welcomed the 5-year-old to its plenary on Wednesday.

She was accompanied by her parents Arthur Alvin Aguilar, founder and president of the longest Filipino Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotions Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC), and Maybelline Masuda, the first Filipino jiu-jitsu world champion.

Her father, who was born in Bacolod City and is a Freemason in Negros, is also the first Filipino Brazilian Jiu-jitsu blackbelt holder.*
