Guv: Borders of 2 Negros provinces to stay closed

The borders between Negros Occidental and Oriental remain closed as a deterrent against the spread of COVID-19, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said today, February 8.

The governor was reacting to reports that Mabinay and Vallehermoso were opening their borders to Negros Occidental.

Lacson also pointed out that Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo has an existing executive order imposing strict border controls.

The mayors of Negros Occidental in a meeting last month also unanimously opposed the reopening of the borders.

Meanwhile, Lacson said he has not transmitted the request to construct the provincial government offices in Talisay City to the Negros Occidental Sangguniang Panlalawigan yet.

He would like to know first what the additional cost will be if the new Provincial Administration Center is constructed n Talisay City instead of Bacolod City before forwarding the transfer request to the SP, Lacson said.

The target is to begin construction this year, he said.*
