The 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. curfew in Negros Occidental will remain in full force and effect in May to curb the current surge of COVID-19 cases in the province.

That was stressed by Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson in Executive Order 21-24, Series of 2021 which he issued Thursday, April 29, extending the duration of the Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) over Negros Occidental until May 31.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday, April 28, approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) for Negros Occidental and Bacolod City to remain under MGCQ in May, Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said.

Apparently, the number of COVID-19 cases in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City are not enough for them to qualify for a higher quarantine status, we always look at the analytics, Roque told DIGICAST NEGROS.

Lacson said he will not file an appeal to Negros Occidental’s MGCQ classification in May, as his previous request for it to be placed under the more stringent General Community Quarantine had already been denied by the IATF-EID.

The Department of Health in Western Visayas downgraded the classification of Negros Occidental from high risk for COVID-19 to low risk on Monday, April 26, the governor also pointed out.

The governor in EO No.21-24 said the uniform travel protocols under IATF-EID Resolution 101 , stringent measures on mass gatherings and the mandatory registration of all travelers to Negros Occidental under the Safe, Swift and Smart Passage (S-PaSS) Travel Management System and the StaySafe.ph application will remain in full force and effect in May.*
