Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the blessing and inauguration of another abattoir/slaughterhouse project located at the City Agriculture Compound in Brgy. Rizal, San Carlos City, on Friday, May 22.
It is one of the many abattoirs strategically located in various LGUs in the province, aimed at ensuring safe, hygienic, and regulated meat processing for public consumption, thereby protecting public health through proper sanitation and inspection, while also supporting the local livestock industry and economy, and helping manage waste responsibly, the provincial government reported.
The project is one of the Department of Agriculture-led Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) initiatives in Negros Occidental, co-funded by the World Bank, the National Government, and the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental.
Lacson said that Negros Occidental has many abattoirs, as it is one of the biggest backyard hog-raising provinces, supporting the multibillion-peso hog industry and playing a key role in repopulation efforts.
Joining the governor at the activity were San Carlos City officials led by Mayor Renato Gustilo and former Negros Occidental 1st District representative Gerardo Valmayor Jr.
Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz earlier said seven LGUs, including Murcia, Hinoba-an, Cauayan, San Carlos, Binalbagan, Toboso, and E.B. Magalona, responded to the call for slaughterhouse projects, underwent a workshop, and simultaneously prepared project proposals and feasibility studies that passed World Bank and PRDP review, leading to the realization of these projects.*
