A fourth suspect in the killing of American marine biologist Kent Edward Carpenter surrendered on Thursday evening while a fifth suspect is still at large, Capt. Stephen Jaynard Polinar, Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office spokesperson, said Friday, July 17.

Two of the three men who barged into the home of Carpenter, 73, in Sibulan on Sunday night were arrested Wednesday, while the third one is still at large.

One of those arrested has been tagged as the gunman who shot Carpenter in the right side of his head and eye, causing his instantaneous death, Polinar said. The other one allegedly raped Carpenter’s 34-year-old live-in partner, he added.

The two other suspects who surrendered did not enter the house and allegedly acted as lookouts, he added.

Criminal complaints for robbery with homicide under Article 294, Paragraph 1 of the Revised Penal Code were filed against the two arrested suspects identified as Mark Oracoy and Jal Filipinas before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Dumaguete City. The complaints were docketed under Docket No. VII-04-INQ-26G-00647, while the investigation against the remaining suspects continues.

The live-in partner will be the complainant-witness,  Col. Timar Alam, Negros Oriental provincial police director, said.*
