LTO-NIR recommends revocation of rider’s license over fatal Bacolod crosswalk crash

The Land Transportation Office–Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR) has recommended the revocation of the driver’s license of a motorcycle rider found administratively liable in the fatal road crash that killed a pedestrian at a crosswalk in Bacolod City.

On July 17, LTO-NIR said the rider was found administratively liable for reckless driving in connection with the June 25 crash along Lacson Street in front of the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH).

The incident involved a Yamaha Aerox 155 motorcycle that struck two pedestrians who were lawfully crossing at the designated pedestrian lane, resulting in the death of one victim and injuries to another.

According to LTO-NIR, the rider failed to submit a written explanation despite being issued a Show Cause Order, leaving the evidence gathered during the investigation unrebutted.

The agency said this led to the issuance of a resolution finding the rider administratively liable for reckless driving under Republic Act No. 4136.

LTO-NIR imposed the corresponding administrative penalty for a first offense under Joint Administrative Order 2014-01 and recommended the revocation of the rider’s driver’s license due to the gravity of the incident.

The agency said the recommendation underscores that driving is a privilege that carries the responsibility of protecting the lives of all road users, particularly pedestrians crossing at designated crosswalks.

LTO-NIR also reiterated its commitment to strictly enforce road safety laws and hold motorists accountable when negligence results in the loss of life.*
