About 100 members of the Federation of Urban Poor in Negros Occidental clad in yellow honored former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. on his 38th death anniversary by laying flowers at the foot of his statue at Araneta Street in Bacolod City on Saturday, August 21, FED UP head Joy Jarabelo said.

“Like Ninoy, we must defend our country from those who are destroying it now”, she said.

He had opposed the Marcos regime and was assassinated at the Manila International Airport, now the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, on Aug. 21, 1983 on his return from self-exile in the United States.

Jarabelo said they marked the death anniversary of the senator to thank him, and former presidents Cory and Noynoy Aquino for the sacrifices they made to ensure that dignity, justice and democracy would prevail in the country.

As Filipinos we must stand up for what is right for our country, she said.*
