EB Magalona in Negros Occidental has been named a Child-Friendly Municipality by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The Child-Friendly plum is a validation how his administration ensures and nurtures a safe space for children in EB Magalona, Mayor Matthew Louis Malacon said in a press statement on Sunday, Dec. 7.
EB Magalona was among the 17 local government units in Negros Occidental or 79 localities in Region 6 recognized as passers of the 2024 Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance (SCFLG) award.
Malacon said that beyond politics, he feels the need for a safer environment for children in EB Magalona.
“With so many challenges now confronting children, including abuse – physical or online – we have no choice, but to protect them at all costs,” he said.
“It is central in my administration to have focused policies strengthening children’s protection no matter what happens”, he said.
This recognition indeed reflects the municipality’s broader commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive development, aligning with DILG standards for child-friendly governance, the mayor said, adding, “Our child-centered governance really bore fruit,”
Malacon said the SCFLG will also motivate them to sustain and expand programs that truly benefit young people in EB Magalona.*
