Dry spell damage to rice crops in Neg. Occ. rises to P12.8M

The dry spell has caused the soil to crack.*

The local government units in Negros Occidental whose rice crops have been hit by the ongoing dry spell have increased to seven with total damage reaching P12,807,000, Provincial Agriculturist Dina Genzola said Tuesday, February 6.

She said the dry spell has hit rice crops in four more LGUs – Binalbagan, Moises Padilla, Hinoba-an and Sipalay City.

The dry spell earlier also hit crops in Himamaylan City, Isabela and Cauayan, Genzola said.

The P12,807,000 damage covers 346 hectares in 36 barangays affecting 373 farmers, she said.

Affected areas are rainfed and some irrigated sections, Genzola said.*
