Driver dies, 2 injured in 5-vehicle accident

A driver, who is believed to have suffered from a heart attack, died while two others were injured in a five-vehicle accident in Silay City, Negros Occidental, on Thursday morning, May 14.

Police said the accident happened at around 11:30 a.m. at the corner of J. Pitong and Bonifacio streets in Brgy. IV.

The vehicles involved were a Ford Ranger, a Mitsubishi Xpander, a Yamaha Mio Gear motorcycle, a Honda Click motorcycle, and a parked vehicle.

Initial investigation by the Silay City Police Station showed that the driver identified only as “Dani” lost control of his Ford Ranger and swerved to the opposite lane.

The vehicle sideswiped the Mitsubishi Xpander before hitting the two motorcycles and the parked vehicle in front of a restaurant.

The driver of the Yamaha Mio Gear, identified as alias “John,” sustained serious injuries and was brought to the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital.

The driver of the Honda Click, identified as alias “Jin,” was brought to Silay One Hospital for treatment.

The Ford Ranger driver was also rushed to Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital due to a suspected heart attack and was declared dead by the attending physician.*
