Department of Health officials held a consultative meeting with Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson to discuss the Negros Island Region Act and the creation of the NIR Center for Health Development, Health Undersecretary Mary Ann Maestral said Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Maestral said the DOH NIR regional office will be in Negros Oriental but their transition team also met with Lacson to listen to his expectations and requests.
Maestral said her pet project is the building of a mental hospital in Negros Occidental.
DOH has the funds and capacity to build and run such facility but does not have the land, she said.
The governor said he will look for the property needed, she said.
Maestral said they also thanked the governor for giving the DOH office space at the Negros Residences for her as undersecretary for Visayas.
