Schools in La Carlota City and La Castellana, Negros Occidental, will resume face-to-face classes on Monday, Jan. 6, except for those within the extended 6-kilometer Kanlaon Volcano danger zone and those being used as evacuation centers.
Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson on Sunday reiterated his call for everyone to continue to pray for Divine intervention to halt Kanlaon from erupting.
La Carlota Mayor Rex Jalandoon, in Executive Order No. Series of 2025, said schools located outside the 6-kilometer danger zone and those not serving as evacuation centers will resume in-person classes.
The resumption of face-to-face classes is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to navigate the challenges presented by the volcanic eruption while maintaining educational standards, he said.
Jalandoon stressed the importance of providing continuity in education while safeguarding the health and safety of students and educators.
Classes at all levels in schools, including day care centers, in La Carlota City will resume on Monday, except for those in the Kanlaon danger zone and those used as evacuation centers , he said.
These are the Miguel Mondia Elementary School, La Carlota North Elementary School, La Carlota South Elementary School II, La Carlota City College-Cubay and day care centers in Ara-al, Guintubdan, Nailab and Parkingan, he said.
Some schools, such as Ara-al Elementary School, Yubo Elementary School and Yubo National High School, will stay closed pending further consultations with the Department of Education, Parent-Teacher Associations, teachers associations and barangay officials, he added.
LA CASTELLANA
La Castellana Mayor Rhummyla Nicor Mangilimutan also issued Executive Order 025-001, Series of 2025, lifting the suspension of classes in both public and private schools at all levels with the implementation of flexible learning modalities starting Monday.
Schools inside the 6 km. extended danger zone shall implement the modular and online learning modality, she said.
Schools outside the 6 km. extended danger zone used as evacuation centers shall implement blended learning modalities (in-person classes with modular online learning).
Schools outside the 6 km. extended danger zone not used as evacuation center shall resume in-person classes, Mangilimutan said.
The Colegio de La Castellana shall implement the online learning modality, she added.
Bago City’s classes have been ongoing since its evacuees are not housed in schools, Mayor Nicholas Yulo said.
RELIEF RESOURCES
The Office of Civil Defense said as of Sunday 13,266 persons remained in evacuation centers, and 7,458 other displaced persons are staying outside evacuation centers in La Castellana, La Carlota City and Bago City in Negros Occidental, and Canloan City in Negros Oriental.
The total assistance provided to the evacuees by the Office of the President, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), local governments and non-government organizations has reached P159 million, the OCD said.
Available relief resources for the evacuees as of Saturday totaled P148,106, 475, the DSWD said.
WATER FILTRATION TRUCK
The Negros Occidental provincial government acquired a 10,000-liter water filtration truck equipped with a reverse osmosis water system to provide potable water to communities during disasters, especially in evacuation camps, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said Saturday.
The wastewater generated by the system can be repurposed for cleaning and laundry, maximizing its utility during emergencies, he added.
The vehicle that will serve the water needs of the Kanlaon evacuees was blessed on Saturday.*
