City gov’t providing free rides to help Bacolod residents during transpo strike  

The Bacolod City government vehicles to be deployed.*

Mayor Greg Gasataya has ordered the deployment of “libre sakay” vehicles across Bacolod City on Wednesday, April 15, to provide free rides for commuters affected by a scheduled transportation strike.

The “no to oil price hike” transportation strike in Bacolod City, to be joined mostly by traditional jeepneys, will be held from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Rodolfo Gardoce, chairperson of the United Negros Drivers and Operators Center-Piston, said.

“We appeal to our fellow citizens who will participate in the transport strike to express their concerns peacefully. Everyone has the right to voice their stand and advocate for issues they believe in,” the mayor said.

Gasataya said despite the transport strike, government operations will continue as scheduled tomorrow.

The city government assures the public of its continued efforts to maintain order and provide essential services during this time, he added.

Twelve vehicles will be provided by the city government to assist commuters, the Bacolod City Communications Office (BCCO) said.

The Libre Sakay vehicles will be deployed at 6:30 a.m. and will leave designated pick-up points at 7 a.m. with two trips, it said. The vehicles will again be deployed at around 5 p.m. also with two trips to accommodate commuters during peak hours, the BCCO added.

The BCCO said identified routes for the free transportation services include:

Route 1: Bata Pick-up point: Mormon’s church -Lacson St. -B.S. Aquino Drive -Burgos St. -Bacolod City Government Center;

Pickup point: Mormon’s church, Bata -Lacson St. -Rizal St. -Plaza -Gatuslao -Bacolod City Government Center;

Route 2: Banago Pickup point: Banago Brgy. Hall -same as Banago jeep route;

Route 3: Singcang–Airport Pickup point: Calong-calong/Palmas del Mar -Singcang jeep route -Plaza -Bacolod City Government Center;

Route 4: Estefania Pickup point: Estefania Brgy. Hall -same as Estefania jeep route;

Route 5: Paglaum Village–Mansilingan Pickup point: Paglaum Village Bangga Paglaum Village -Mansilingan jeep route; and

Route 6: Cabug–Alijis Pickup point: Bangga Cabug-Alijis -Araneta -Plaza -Gatuslao -888 Mall -Lopues East -Bacolod City Government Center.*
