City gov’t shuts down McDonald’s at Buri Road for lack of fire permit

The Bacolod City government has temporarily shut down the newly opened McDonald’s Buri Road branch, which began operations on February 1, for failure to secure a fire safety permit from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez on Wednesday, Feb. 12, stressed that business compliance is crucial for public safety.

“These regulations exist to protect both the public and businesses,” he said.

McDonald’s acknowledged the city’s decision and committed to meeting all requirements, and announced a temporary closure by February 14, a press release from the Bacolod City government said.

The Bacolod City government reiterated that while it supports business growth, compliance is non-negotiable.

The McDonald’s Buri Road branch may resume operations once all necessary permits are secured, the press release added.*
