Intelligence operatives arrested a 34-year-old Chinese national with alleged ties to illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGO) during an operation along Yulo Street in Barangay 16, Bacolod City, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported Wednesday, August 27.
BI agents, supported by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office and Bacolod City Police Station 1, nabbed the suspect, identified as Xie Yingwen, outside a residential area pursuant to a mission order issued by Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado on August 6.
Xie was declared an overstaying and undesirable alien after failing to present valid identification and visa extension documents.
He also admitted to previously working in Manila as a food and fruit vendor.
The arrest follows President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to crack down on illegal foreign nationals abusing the country’s hospitality, the BI said.
Viado highlighted the agency’s strong inter-agency coordination, noting that enforcement efforts extend nationwide to track down illegal aliens hiding in the provinces.
Xie was immediately transferred to the BI’s holding facility in Bicutan, Taguig City, where he remains held pending deportation proceedings.*
