
A Ceres Liner passenger bus overshot the gutter at its terminal in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, on Tuesday, July 5, that left four passengers injured.
The victims were sitting at the terminal when they were rammed by the wayward bus, which was being parked by the driver.
Vallacar Transit Inc., operator of the Ceres bus, in a statement said they were deeply saddened by the accident at the Dumaguete Ceres Terminal and that they sympathize with the injured and their families.
The driver has been serving the company for 15 years and has no record of major accidents. Prior to the accident, the driver was awarded with a “zero accident incentive,” the statement said.
“We would like to assure the families and the riding pubic that we are taking care of the injured by covering the expenses of their medical treatment. They are now in a stable condition and the injuries are non-life threatening,” it said, adding the management is making sure that all their needs are taken care of.
The statement said that based on their initial investigation, the unit involved in the accident was not experiencing any malfunction. “We would like to assure the riding public that this was only an isolated case,” it added.
The driver is now under the custody of the Dumaguete police and that the management will conduct a thorough investigation to ensure that all issues regarding this matter will be addressed in the most expeditious manner.
Vallacar will continue to serve the riding public with utmost regard for their safety and security, the statement said.*
