The police arrested a 40-year-old man and seized suspected shabu worth P340,000 in a buy bust operation  at crossing Tuguis, Brgy. Buenavista Gibong, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, on Thursday, March 7. The suspect, whose name was withheld by  the police, is from Brgy. Narauis Paticui, Hinigaran.Seized from him were 10 heat-sealed sachets of suspected shabu weighing 50 grams, an improvised glass tooter with traces of suspected shabu and other non-drug items, the police reported. The suspect is now detained at the Pontevedra Police Station, while the drug evidence was turned over to the forensic unit of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office in Bacolod City.*

A human skeleton was found in a sugarcane plantation at Sitio Omot, Brgy. Santol, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, on Thursday, March 7. Police records showed that the skeleton of Jonathan Guadario, 40, of Sitio Omot was found at about 10 a.m. on Thursday by a farm worker. The victim was identified by his  father, who said he suffered from a nervous breakdown and epilepsy.* 

Ten out of 31 towns  and cities in Negros Occidental have 100 percent drug cleared barangays, a Philippine  Drug Enforcement Agency report released on Friday, March 8, said. The areas  with 100 percent drug cleared barangays are Bago City, Candoni, EB Magalona, La Castellana, Manapla, Moises Padilla, Pulupandan, Sipalay City, Valladolid and Victorias City. The ten new drug cleared barangays in Negros Occidental are brgys  19 and 22 in Bacolod, Tiling in Cauayan, Jonob-jonob and Langub in Escalante City, Gargato in Hinigaran, Lopez Jaena in Murcia, Zone 12 in Talisay City, and Guinhalaran and Mambulac in Silay City. The PDEA report said of the 601 barangays in Negros Occidental 471 or 78 percent are drug cleared.* 

The Sugar Regulatory Administration issued Sugar Order No. 2 on Friday, March 8, for the voluntary purchase of  Crop Year 2023-2024 locally produced raw sugar to be reclassified  as "C" or reserve  sugar in order to avail of an allocation for a  future import program. The intention of the Voluntary Limited Volume Purchase is to help secure and stabilize the farmgate prices of locally produced sugar while at the same time ensuring fair and reasonable retail prices,  the order states. It is open to, among others, farmers, farmer's groups, cooperatives  and  associations,  sugar millers, manufacturers, beverage makers, who are licensed SRA Domestic or International Sugar Traders, it said. The 300,000 MT of locally produced raw sugar  covered under the  orde...
