CAAP allocates P250M for upgrade of Bacolod Silay Airport, Albee says

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is allocating P205 million for the Bacolod-Silay Airport Development Project, on top of the P45 million for the ongoing rehabilitation work, Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said on Friday, April 25.

Lt. Gen. Raul del Rosario, CAAP director general, in a letter to Benitez on Thursday, April 24, said the P205 million allocated from their 2025 Corporate Operating Budget is in response to the mayor’s Feb. 24 letter requesting for P200 million for the improvement and renovation of the Bacolod-Silay Airport.

Del Rosario said P200 million has been allocated for the expansion of the Passenger Terminal Building, which includes the check-in area and pre-departure area to accommodate the growing passenger demand.

The P5 million will be for the widening of access road to the Fire Station Building, he said.

The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) has committed to include in their funding the asphalt overlay of the existing runway at the Bacolod-Silay Airport to ensure safe aircraft operations, he added.

The CAAP is currently implementing the rehabilitation of the Passenger Terminal Building at the Bacolod-Silay Airport amounting to P45 million, which is expected to be completed on December 2025, del Rosario said.

Benitez thanked CAAP for approving his request and allocating the ₱205 million.

“This, along with TIEZA’s support and the ongoing ₱45 million terminal rehab, brings us closer to a safer, more efficient, and passenger-friendly airport for Bacolod and the rest of the province,” he said

“We are committed to seeing these projects through for the benefit of our people,” he added.*
