Bacolod mayoral candidate Alfredo “Albee” Benitez said barangay officials should be spared from having to monitor campaign violations.
“We know barangay captains have political biases,” Benitez said on Wednesday, February 16.
Barangay officials also already have a lot of duties, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic, he added.
The Comelec earlier announced that barangay officials will be deputized to monitor and report campaign violations.
Benitez said he is set to be briefed on the latest COMELEC guidelines by his legal team on Thursday.
The campaign period for local candidates starts March 25.*
