Bishop appeals for donations to aid Luzon typhoon victims

The Diocese of Bacolod is conducting an aggressive drive to aid the typhoon victims of Luzon, Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon said today, November 18.

He said for two Sundays now Catholic churches in the Diocese of Bacolod have had special collections to raise funds for the typhoon victims, he said.

“I’m deeply moved by the prompt and generous response of our people,” Buzon said.

The bishop in a solidarity appeal called on the faithful to help the typhoon victims through prayers and financial aid.

Please send your donations to the Diocesan Social Action Center or the Office of the Diocesan Treasurer who will, in turn, send the funds to the National Secretariat for Social Action/Caritas Philippines Alay Kapwa account, he said.

The Diocese of Bacolod has initially sent P385,000 to Caritas to assist the typhoon victims, Fr. Chris Gonzales, Diocese of Bacolod Social Action Center head, said.

Donations can also be given through the parishes in the Diocese, he added.

Meanwhile, the Diocese of Bacolod will mark “Red Wednesday” at 6 p.m. on November 25 with the ceremonial lighting of the facades of churches in red, the bishop said.

This year they will focus their attention on the suffering of the people because of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the theme “Red Means Love: One Church Against COVID-19,” he said.*
