The Bacolod City government led by Mayor Greg Gasataya has officially partnered with SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co. (SGV & Co.) to create a clear, forward-looking plan for the city’s long-term growth.
The landmark agreement was signed Wednesday, Oct. 21, at L’Fisher Hotel Bacolod, launching a 70-day project to develop Bacolod’s first comprehensive and actionable Local Economic Development Roadmap, a press release from the Bacolod City Communications Office said Friday.
This effort brings together experienced economic planners and local officials to take a close, honest look at Bacolod’s strengths, current realities, and where the best opportunities for growth lie, it said.
Representing SGV & Co. during the signing was Lead Researcher and Valuations Specialist Marie Stephanie Tan-Hamed, along with the firm’s project team.
For the city, the initiative is led by Mayor Gasataya and Dr. Mae Llamas of the Department of Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions (DLEDIP), working closely with other city offices and representatives from the business sector.
In her remarks, Tan-Hamed expressed the firm’s enthusiasm for the partnership:
“We share the responsibility to build a better working world and contribute to the City’s economic vision in the years ahead. Through this comprehensive research, competitive assessment and study of the local economic development roadmap, we hope to co-develop a study grounded in evidence, informed by the perspectives of Bacolod stakeholders and responsive to both the trends and challenges facing the city at the moment”, she said.
The study will focus on five key areas: economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure development, resiliency, and innovation.
It will identify industries with the most potential, pinpoint gaps in infrastructure and services, and help strengthen Bacolod’s position among the country’s most competitive cities.
The roadmap begins immediately with stakeholder consultations and a two-day Economic Visioning Workshop set for October 29–30, 2026, also at L’Fisher Hotel, the press release said.*
