A fourth year tourism student of La Consolacion College Bacolod is one of 40 official candidates set to vie for the Miss Universe Philippines 2023 crown.
Jan Marie Bordon, 22, who won the Miss Bacolod MassKara International title in October 2022, said she was “supper happy” when the organizers announced on Saturday, after a rigorous screening, that she was among the top 40 official bets.
Bordon said as Bacolod’s Miss Universe Philippines candidate she will promote the city’s tourism destinations, the friendly nature of its people and the MassKara Festival.
Carlos Durana, Miss Bacolod MassKara chairperson, also said he is very happy Bordon was chosen as one of the 40 finalists, “it will hopefully inspire other Bacolod beauties to join future pageants”.
Miss Bacolod MassKara Universe Kara Daniela Villarosa withdrew from vying for a slot in the Miss Universe Philippines 2023 tilt because of a conflict with her studies.
The Miss Bacolod MassKara Organization and Aces and Queens then chose Bordon to represent Bacolod in the Miss Universe Philippines 2023 pageant, Durana said.
Villarrosa, in a letter to the Miss Bacolod Masskara Organization and Bacolod Yuhum Foundation, said “I really am sorry for letting people down but as much as I would love to represent Bacolod City and make my fellow Bacolodnons proud, it creates a huge conflict with my education”.
“I have weighed my options, tried to adjust my school load, and thought about this for over two months and I have decided to put my education first, “ Villarosa added.*
