Army to deploy more than 1,000 personnel to secure elections

The Philippine Army is deploying more than 1,000 personnel in Negros Occidental to secure the May 2025 elections.

To be deployed are 45 officers, 800 enlisted personnel and 200 Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit members, Brig. Gen. Ted Dumosmog, 303rd Brigade commander, said Thursday, Feb. 13.

So far they have not monitored any threats from the New People’s Army in Negros Occidental in connection with the elections, he said.

They are also preparing for a possible eruption at Kanlaon Volcano, Dumosmog said.

“If there will be a major eruption in Mt. Kanlaon definitely there will be some disruption and transfer of some polling precincts,” he said.

If the volcano erupts Army  personnel will also be deployed to assist in evacuation work with about 75,000 residents  expected to be evacuated under Alert Level 4, he  added.*
