Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez announced that the construction of floodgate projects in three of the five major waterways in Bacolod is expected to start next year.
The floodgates with pumping stations will be constructed to prevent flooding in the city, Benitez said Monday, Nov. 11.
More than P300M has been allocated by the Department of Public Works and Highways for the three floodgate projects in the Magsungay, Mandalagan and Sum-ag rivers.
The floodgate projects will be presented at a stakeholder’s business summit at L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City on Nov. 22, he said.
Floods are a major problem that are affecting the entire world because of climate change, Benitez pointed out.*
