Kanlaon Volcano spewed ash 22 times from 12 a.m. Saturday to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25 and 26, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
Mari-Andylene Quintia, resident volcanologist at the PHIVOLCS Kanlaon Volcano Observatory in La Carlota City, said on Sunday that the ash emissions are minor eruptions.
Volcanic ash is formed during volcanic eruptions when dissolved gases in magma expand and escape into the atmosphere.
The Kanlaon ash emissions lasted from 2 to 65 minutes, Phivolcs said.
There were also 35 volcanic earthquakes, including 11 volcanic tremors (4-38 minutes long), at Kanlaon from 12 a.m. Saturday to 12 a.m. Sunday, Phivolcs also reported.
The volcano also emitted 2,413 tons of Sulfur Dioxide on Saturday, it said.
Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3 (intensified unrest), Phivolcs said.
Meanwhile, the La Castellana Incident Management Team joined displaced residents from the 6-kilometer Kanlaon danger zone in cleaning and disinfecting their evacuation camps in La Castellana, Negros Occidental.
Clearing litter and pollutants from camp premises can help prevent harmful viruses and substances from contaminating the soil, water, and air, which can have a negative impact on the health of the IDPs, the La Castellana Incident Management Team said.*
