2 university students injured after motorcycle falls off bridge

Two college students from Central Philippines State University (CPSU) were injured after the motorcycle they were riding on fell off a 12-foot bridge in Sitio Ulalod, Brgy. Orong, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 17.

Police identified the victims as Jonas Apostol, 19, the driver, and his cousin, Michael Avance, 20, both forestry students at the CPSU Main Campus and residents of Brgy. Binicuil, Kabankalan.

Kabankalan City Police Chief, Lt. Col. Roberto Indiape Jr., said the two were on their way home from school when the driver lost control of the motorcycle along a curved portion of the national highway.

The road was slippery due to sandy debris and rain, causing the vehicle to overshoot to the right side of the bridge and plunge into the river below, the police said.

The victims sustained head injuries and multiple wounds.

They were first brought to Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan before being referred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City for further treatment.

The police classified the incident as self-inflicted.*
