2 die in vehicular crashes

Two persons died in vehicular accidents in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday and Thursday, May 6 and 7.

A 61-year-old driver died after his vehicle slammed into a steel post along the highway in Brgy. Hilamonan on Thursday morning, May 7.

The police identified the victim as alias “Ramon,” a laborer and resident of Brgy. 1, Kabankalan City.

The Kabankalan police said the victim was driving a green Suzuki Carry from Himamaylan City toward Kabankalan when he allegedly lost consciousness and control of the vehicle.

Authorities said the vehicle swerved into the opposite lane before crashing into a steel post beside the road.

The victim was rushed to the Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital where he was declared dead. The police said the victim was reportedly taking maintenance medicines for hypertension and pain relievers, based on information from his son.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old student died in a motorcycle crash in Sitio Kanding, Brgy. Camingawan on Wednesday night.

The fatality, identified as alias “Joe,” was a backrider on a Suzuki Skydrive motorcycle driven by alias “Joy,” 25, a student from Kabankalan City.

Initial investigation showed the two were allegedly under the influence of liquor and were traveling from a café toward the Central Philippine State University main campus when the driver reportedly lost balance and control of the motorcycle.

Both sustained head injuries after falling onto the pavement.

They were brought to the Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital by responders from the Brgy. Camingawan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management team.

The driver was treated as an outpatient, while the backrider later died while undergoing treatment, police said.*
