2 die in motorcycle, van crash in Calatrava

A driver and his backrider died after their motorcycle collided head-on with a van along the national highway in Sitio Tabugok, Brgy. Patun-an, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, on Saturday evening, May 16.

Police identified the motorcycle driver as Trophany Panaga, 41, of Escalante City, and his  backrider was Jemlo Burao.

Initial investigation by the Calatrava police showed that around 6 p.m., the Honda Click motorcycle was traveling toward San Carlos City when it allegedly overtook another vehicle at high speed along a curved portion of the road.

Police said the motorcycle driver lost control and collided head-on with an oncoming Mitsubishi L300 van driven by Lomi Boliboli, 31, of Calatrava.

The van driver reportedly tried to avoid the collision, but his vehicle was still hit by the motorcycle.

The motorcycle driver and his backrider died on the spot. They were brought to the Calatrava Municipal Health Office, where they were declared dead.

The van driver and both vehicles were brought to the Calatrava Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.*
