A 16-year-old student drowned while crossing a creek in Brgy. Tampalon, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on Thursday, Sept. 24.
Police said the student, a resident of Purok Amian Ilaya, had gone swimming with his classmates following the suspension of classes that day.
Initial investigation showed that the student was attempting to cross a creek in Purok Narra Tree on his way home when he began struggling in the water and failed to stay afloat.
The victim was retrieved and brought to the Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
His uncle reported the incident to the Kabankalan City Police Station at around 6 p.m.
Police said the victim’s family believed the drowning was unintentional and did not suspect foul play.
The body was brought to Lisas Funeral Homes for a postmortem examination by the Kabankalan City Health Office.
